Library schemes return to celebrate Libraries Week

Celebrating Libraries Week: Get involved, feel inspired.

This week is Libraries Week, an annual showcase and celebration of the best that libraries have to offer. It is a chance to celebrate the central role that libraries play in supporting lifelong learning.

At Northampton College, we want to showcase how our libraries are inspiring learning for all and helping individuals to unlock and fulfil their potential, therefore we are marking Libraries Week with the return of our refreshed, award-winning reading, literacy and numeracy schemes; Word Detective, Maths Magician and Read Six. Please visit your Library centre to sign up for any of the schemes below.

Read Six

Read Six is a challenge developed by the Library to encourage all students and staff to read! The scheme invites you to choose six reads and record your reading in a diary. If you want to improve your reading skills or just want to get back into reading then Read Six is for you!

Reading is a great way of challenging yourself and can improve literacy skills, teach you new things, support your wellbeing and build confidence. Once you've completed six reads, you’ve finished and you will receive a certificate and a prize!

You can join the scheme by collecting a diary from the Library before browsing our huge fiction collection or start your journey today by submitting your reading online.

Word Detective

Word Detective is a 20-week literacy scheme designed to improve vocabulary and writing skills. Each week, there will be three new words displayed in the Library and posted on the Library website. The challenge is to find a meaning and write your own sentence using each word. Once you've completed each week, bring your diary to the Library desk where it will be checked by a member of staff.

For information on signing up, please visit our Word Detective page.

Maths Magician

Maths Magician is a 20-week numeracy scheme using ‘scenarios’ based in practical situations to solve puzzles. Question sheets will be available to collect from the Library on a weekly basis. You will need to collect your Maths Magician diary from the Library desk before you start.
