Generous Donations of Books to the Library

The Library has been gifted a large number of books from David Pierpoint, husband of the late artist Margaret Pierpoint. The books cover a wide range of topics within art and Library staff are busy cataloguing this large collection which will be available to borrow very soon! Thank you so much to David for this generous donation, we know that our students will find these to be a fantastic resource for many years to come!

Margaret Pierpoint lived locally in Mears Ashby and studied and qualified in X-ray radiography. By her mid-twenties, she was a senior radiographer, but she left that in 1960 when she married David. After Margaret’s daughter was born, she found she had more time to devote to her gardening and during this time also began to develop her interest in art. Principally self-taught, she developed into an accomplished artist and, David says, would have been pleased that her books would be used to help others develop their artistic talents.

Thank you also to Janet Pearce-Johnson who has donated art and sport books that belonged to her father, Alan Douglas. It is incredibly kind and thoughtful to have donated these for the benefit of others and we will ensure we utilise them as much as possible.
